What is orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. It most commonly involves the use of braces to straighten teeth.

What are the different types of orthodontics?

The most common type of braces are made from stainless steel. They are polished on the front and matte on the back to make them less noticeable. For those allergic to metal, we offer ceramic braces that are nearly invisible after placement. We also offer lingual braces, which are placed on the back side of the teeth.

Does orthodontics hurt?

Orthodontic treatment is not painful, but your teeth may be tender or sensitive to pressure for several days after your braces or aligners are placed or adjusted. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm.

How long does orthodontic treatment take?

Treatment time varies and can last between one and three years, depending on several factors. A big factor is the patient's age. The younger the patient, the quicker the treatment will generally move. Another factor is the severity of the problem. Severe problems take longer to treat.
